Terms of service
Last updated 6 October 2026
The short version: what you draw is yours, don't use it to harm anybody, an org's Admins control what is made in it, the AI chat can be wrong, the service comes with no promises, and what can be claimed from whoever runs it is limited. The rest of this page says that properly.
Who you are agreeing with
minicanvas is run by the developer who makes it ("we"). By making an account, or by using minicanvas on behalf of an organisation, you agree to these terms — and if you do that for an organisation, you confirm you may agree for it. You need to be at least 16, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is older.
Your drawings are yours
You keep every right you have in what you make. No ownership is claimed over it, and we do not use it to train anything.
The permission you give us is the narrow one needed to run the service: storing what you make, showing it to the people you or your org let in, and sending it to the AI chat's providers when somebody asks the chat about it.
What you may not use it for
You may use minicanvas for anything lawful. You are responsible for what you draw, upload and share, and for anyone you hand a link to. Do not use it to:
- store or share anything unlawful, or anything that infringes somebody else's rights;
- build pages that pretend to be somebody else, or that collect passwords, payment details or other people's data — a drawing's HTML elements and share links are not for phishing;
- spread malware, spam or harassment;
- break, overload or probe the service, reach another account's data, or get round its limits;
- use the AI chat to produce anything unlawful or harmful, or to get round the limits each org has.
We may remove content, switch off links, or suspend an account or an org that breaks these rules, and will tell you why unless the law or safety says otherwise.
Reporting abuse or copyright
To report a drawing or link that breaks these terms, or that uses your copyrighted work without permission, write to gradywetherbee@u.northwestern.edu with the link and what is wrong. A copyright notice should say what work is affected, that you own it or act for whoever does, and how to reach you. We act on reports promptly.
Orgs
Drawings live in orgs. Whoever pays for an org, and its Admins, decide who is in it, what each role may do, and who may open what. They can open every drawing in it, remove people, and delete the org with everything in it. What you make in an org belongs to that org's workspace: if you leave or are removed, it stays with the org.
Share links
A drawing can have as many links as its sharers make, each able to view, edit, or edit and pass the link on. Anyone holding a link can use it — there is no sign-in behind them, which is what makes them easy to send and what makes them worth being careful with. Deleting a link stops it working at once. An org can switch link sharing off altogether.
Accounts and payment
Each org is on the free plan or on Pro. The free plan has limits (on drawings, storage and AI use, and how many free orgs one person may be in). Pro lifts them and is a subscription, billed monthly through Stripe, by the most people the org had in it at once that month, at the price shown on the org's billing page — minicanvas never sees your card details.
You can cancel at any time from the billing page. Cancelling stops future charges at the end of the period; the free plan's limits then apply again, and everything already made stays. Payments are not refunded for part of a period, except where the law says they must be. Deleting an org cancels its subscription at once.
The AI chat
A drawing's chat sends what you ask it, with the drawing and what it needs to answer, to OpenAI or Google, and changes the drawing on your behalf. Its answers can be wrong, incomplete or unsuitable: check what it does before relying on it. Don't put anything in it you are not allowed to share with those providers. Each org has a monthly allowance; once it is spent, the chat stops until the next month.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, all warranties are disclaimed, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
Nothing here promises that the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, that defects will be corrected, or that your data will not be lost. Keep your own copies of anything you would mind losing — the download menu writes a single file that opens without this service existing, and that is what it is for.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer and operator of minicanvas is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for any loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, business, use, or data — however caused and on any theory of liability, whether or not the possibility of such loss had been made known.
For all other claims, total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose, or fifty euros.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. Where that is the case, the above apply only as far as that jurisdiction permits, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away the rights the law gives you.
Ending it
You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account yourself — Delete account… under your avatar — or, as an Admin, an org. Either is confirmed from a link we email you, and can't be undone. An account or org may be suspended or closed where it is used in breach of these terms, or where running it has become unlawful or impractical.
The service may be changed or discontinued. Where it is discontinued deliberately, reasonable notice will be given so that you can download your drawings.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top says when they last did, and a change that matters will be announced before it applies. Continuing to use the service after a change means the new terms apply to you; if you do not accept them, stop using it and download what you want to keep.
